Consulting Services

I believe that consultation is…

…a very under-utilized resource in our field. Our profession calls us to be able to work with a wide variety of clients, yet it’s impossible to be an expert in each area. In addition, we all reach “stuck” spots with clients where we could use a space to talk it through and gain an outside perspective. I’ve been there and have often struggled to figure out which colleague to “bother” next. Given that everyone is busy, that’s often hard to pursue. So I offer professional consultation in my areas of expertise. If you are licensed but need some additional support and a place to push yourself to grow, consultation is the service for you.

I have specific expertise in…

…working with trauma, children and youths, and parents. I am a registered play therapy supervisor (RPT-S), as well as an approved clinical supervisor (ACS). I am well-versed in parent-child approaches, including child-parent relationship therapy.

I have worked with trauma in many forms over the years and have taught several classes that are focused on teaching counselors-in-training how to work with trauma. I approach trauma in a very neurobiologically-informed way. Many of the things experienced by trauma survivors are not signs of “brokenness” but signs of the brain doing what it needs to best protect your client.

I also have extensive teaching and supervision experience in play therapy and would be happy to support your work in that area.

Steps for consultation:

  1. We agree on an appropriate amount of time to meet (a minimum of 30 minutes).

  2. At least 1 week prior to our meeting, you send me a basic case summary, including what exactly you’d like to get out of our time together.

  3. You prepare any audio or video that you might share in our session (which will be conducted via Google Workspace).

  4. I read case details and prepare to support your goals in our session.

  5. We meet for our agreed amount of time to review the case.

  6. At the end of our time, we’ll review goals and assess success of the session.
