Consultation

You can’t be the expert in everything!

You’re not so far out of your depth that you need to refer out, but you just need some someone with specialized expertise to support your work. Consultation is a very under-utilized resource in our field. Our profession calls us to be able to work with a wide variety of clients, yet it’s impossible to be an expert in each area. In addition, we all reach “stuck” spots with clients where we could use a space to talk it through and gain an outside perspective. I’ve been there and have often struggled to figure out which colleague to “bother” next. Given that everyone is busy, that’s often hard to pursue. So I offer professional consultation in my areas of expertise. If you are licensed but need some additional support and a place to push yourself to grow, consultation is the service for you.

MY CLINICAL EXPERIENCE…

  • I have specific expertise in working with trauma, children and young people, and parents (including supporting caregivers of LGBTQ+ kiddos).

  • I am a registered play therapy supervisor (RPT-S) with 20+ years of experience in play therapy including play therapy practice, supervision, academic writing, presentation, and teaching.

  • I am able to supervise/consult for your registered play therapist certification if you’re already licensed.

  • I have a strong background in Child-Centered Play Therapy. However, I have taught play therapy courses for many years and can support you in any theoretical orientation in play therapy.

  • I am well-versed in parent-child approaches, including child-parent relationship therapy. I can help you use CPRT in groups, individually, or just as a framework to teach parents skills.

  • I have worked with trauma in many forms over the years and have taught several classes that are focused on teaching counselors-in-training how to work with trauma. Additionally, I have worked with children and adults who are healing from abuse and trauma.
