Counseling

I work with clients…

...from a collaborative and integrated approach. We are in this together and have lots of resources between the two of us! Perfectionism and self-criticism can wreak havoc on so many areas of life. So while we will work together to address your specific concerns, it’s likely we will also take a look at relationships (past and present), life balance, wellness, and boundaries. Counseling isn’t just about “fixing;” it’s also about finding joy. I also enjoy incorporating creative approaches if that fits for you. If you’re someone who likes details or has a penchant for counseling theory, you can take a deeper dive into my training and approach here.

I have specific expertise in…

...the effects of trauma; working with kids, adolescents, and parents/caregivers; and attachment in relationships. I am a registered play therapist, which means that I have extensive training in child development and play modalities. Young people’s brains are just different! If you are curious, watch this video from the Association for Play Therapy. While I do not currently offer play therapy in an online format, I am well-versed in parent-child approaches and can support children by supporting caregivers. I hope to offer play therapy again in the future. Finally, I am board certified and have significant experience in providing online therapy.

I am passionate about…

...advocacy and supporting marginalized clients. I know that my clients come in with layers of intersecting identities and work hard to understand how our differences in identity and experience affect the work we do. I have a passion for working with LGBTQ+ youth and their families and have written and presented on this extensively. I also support folks in a variety of relationship structures, including non-monogamous relationships. In counseling with me you will find affirmative therapy that helps you express and explore your entire identity.

I can’t stop talking about…

...self-compassion. My students, my clients, and my supervisees would confirm this. We are all really just doing the best we can. Together, we’ll work to understand that critical voice in your head, including what it’s scared of, and you will develop the ability to be a kinder, more compassionate person toward a very important person…you!

Our sessions will be:

  • Collaborative

We will work together. You’re the expert on you. I’m the facilitator of change.

  • Encouraging

Whether you know it or not, you have strengths. We will build on those.

  • Real

I’ll be honest with you. I’ll show up and engage in the process as the real me.

  • Even fun

This may surprise you, but counseling can (and should) be fun. Yes, it’s work. Yes, it can be hard. But humor and fun are healing.
